WHY Teaching?
Teaching appeals to me because of its importance in the world as you are shaping the minds of our future generation. I believe that some teachers are in the profession for the wrong reasons, but I am here to work with children and give them all of the support and knowledge they need to be a self-sustaining and happy individual in their future. I am particularly interested in the high-poverty schools that I am located in because of the unique situations I encounter. Each child has a story behind them and I consider it my job to figure out what works best for them and then push them to reach their full potential. In a child's life, all it takes is one caring adult to encourage students to make the switch into success.
Teaching in a Title I school district in Arizona, I cater to native Spanish-speaking students. My goal is to serve the needs of the growing Hispanic population in our community by providing them with an equal chance to receive a good education, just as the English-speaking students who currently make up the majority in the schools. Every day, I look forward to undertaking the opportunity of instructing students of all backgrounds in the interstate schools where dedicated professionals are needed. I believe that eventually all educators in Arizona and various other states in the Southwest will require the skills to teach English as a Second Language students; therefore, I hope that I have cleared a strong path for others to follow and changed the current stigma that goes along with the job. One day I endeavor to bring my service to other countries as well, specifically Spanish speaking nations, where education plays a very different role or, in some cases, is not as developed as is in the United States. Whether I have the opportunity to teach in other countries or remain here, I continue to strive to impact children’s lives just as great teachers have impacted mine.
